Case study
130 years of rugby league history, brought to life.
Leeds Rhinos Legends is a VR-supported experience built by Abyshire for Virtual Sport Group Ltd, using Unreal Engine 5 to bring club heritage to fans across VR, console, desktop and mobile platforms.
The challenge
Leeds Rhinos carry more than a century of heritage: players, eras, archival photography and moments that shaped the club. The challenge was to make that history feel alive and accessible, not trapped in static records or a narrow VR-only audience.
Our approach
Abyshire built the experience around a conversational digital human guide: Jamie Jones-Buchanan MBE. Instead of forcing fans through static menus, the experience allows guided narrative and questions around the club's history.
The content is structured around a 130-year dataset covering eras, player profiles and historical imagery. Technically, the work was a genuine cross-platform Unreal Engine build, designed to scale across Meta Quest, PlayStation 5, PC, Mac, iOS and Android from one core experience.
The outcome
The result is a heritage product that can reach fans whether they are using VR hardware, console, desktop or mobile.
- Live on the Meta Horizon Store.
- Developed for PS5 and PSVR2.
- One core experience across VR, console, desktop and mobile: Meta Quest, PlayStation 5, PC, Mac, iOS and Android.
- Fronted by Jamie Jones-Buchanan MBE as a conversational digital human guide.
Why it matters
The project shows how sports heritage can become a living, interactive product. The same pattern (structured content, a digital human guide and cross-platform delivery) can be adapted for other clubs, sports and cultural institutions.
